Founded in the 17th century by Welsh settlers, Havertown has grown into a vibrant modern suburb while preserving its historic roots. The town is also known for being one of the largest Irish-American communities in the Philadelphia area, contributing to a unique cultural atmosphere.

Havertown is home to a number of historical landmarks such as the historic Grange Estate. Visitors can experience what life was like from 1682 to the early 1970s. The estate has a formal main house, as well as a carriage house, farm house and a stone long barn. You can also view the gardens from shaded walks on the property.

Another historical location of interest in Havertown is Nitre Hall, an early 19th-century mansion that once supplied gunpowder to the United States Army during the War of 1812. This historical site is the only intact building remaining from the industrial area of the valley, when the Nitre Hall mills had a gunpowder output of 800,000 pounds. When the powder mills closed around 1940, the property buildings were converted to textile manufacturing facilities.
